The International Cultural Ambassador Scheme is a unique opportunity designed for students who have a passion for promoting internationalization on campus and are seeking campus accommodation. This scheme offers selected ambassadors the chance to reside at the International House (I-House) while receiving comprehensive support to organize activities that foster cultural exchange.

As an International Cultural Ambassador, you will play a vital role in creating a vibrant and inclusive campus community. Through your initiatives, you will have the opportunity to showcase your leadership skills and make a positive impact on the cultural landscape at our university.

Eligibility

  • Degree-seeking full-time undergraduate students of CUHK, including local and non-local students, except those from the full-residential Colleges.
  • Passionate about promoting cross-cultural exchange.
  • Responsible, outgoing, and a team player.
  • Good language proficiency and computer literacy.
  • Previous experience in organizing cultural activities would be advantageous.

 

Application Method

  • Interested students can apply individually or form a team of up to 6 students. We encourage applicants to apply as a team as it will ensure sufficient manpower when you organize your activities.
  • Students can choose to apply for one term or for the full year. Priority will be given to full year applicants.
  • Applicants should indicate their strengths in at least one of the following areas and submit an activity plan based on their chosen area(s):
    • Cultural fusion: suitable for teams with members from diverse backgrounds or individual applicants who have lived or studied in multiple places.
    • Cultural stars: suitable for teams whose members are from a specific region outside of Hong Kong and are committed to promoting the culture of their hometown.
    • Visual artists: suitable for applicants with talents in drawing, calligraphy, graphic design, video production, etc.
    • Performing artists: suitable for applicants interested in music, dance, drama, etc.
    • Chinese cultural endeavours: suitable for applicants with exceptional knowledge in Chinese cultures such as Traditional Chinese Medicine, Chinese Chess, etc.

  • Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend selection interview in late June.

 

Programme Requirements

Appointed ambassadors will commit to:

  • Reside at I-House for the appointed period (regular hostel fees apply).
  • Organize at least one activity per term and submit activity reports. (activities will be subsidized)
  • Support at least one OSA activity per term.
  • Participate in the training activities (see details below).

 

Training Sessions

Appointed ambassadors should attend the following training sessions:

  • 17 August 2024, 9am-5pm: Training Day Camp
  • 23 August 2024, 3pm-9pm: Cultural Diversity Workshop
  • Training Workshop(S): schedule to be announced in due course

International Cultural Ambassadors who have fulfilled the programme requirements will receive:

  1. The Office of Student Affairs may use or publish photos taken at any activities related to the program without prior notice
  2.  The Office of Student Affairs reserves the final right to make decisions on all matters related to this program.
