Fitting in a Different Culture

When you first arrive at the university, you will be busy with meeting new friends and joining orientation programmes. Life can be busy, yet novel and interesting at the same time. However, you may feel also disoriented when you start your study in a new environment with unfamiliar way of life. This disorientation is regarded as culture shock that you will encounter many new changes and challenges.

Feeling stressful due to the challenges? Here are some adjustment tips that we have prepared for you.

If you encounter adjustment difficulties, personal or family problems, you are welcome to contact the OSA Wellness and Counselling Centre, to seek professional counselling service. You may also refer to their support and resources from their Sunshine @CUHK website.

On top of the above, the Learning and Cultural Enhancement Section (LCES) and some student associations organise cultural activities on campus. These activities not only facilitate non-local students’ adjustment, but also provide a platform for cross-cultural exchange of local and non-local students.
