Details

The International House, or simply “I-House,” is a student residence with a diverse community of local, mainland, and international students. More than just a place to stay, I-House serves as a platform to promote cultural diversity and inclusivity.

We are currently seeking both female and male Resident Tutors to join our team. Applicants should meet the following requirements:

  • Full-time degree-holding CUHK staff or full-time postgraduate students in the academic year of 2024/25 at CUHK;
  • Excellent spoken English and Cantonese, fluency in spoken Mandarin is advantageous;
  • Mature, responsible individuals with strong interpersonal communication skills are preferred;
  • Preference will be given to candidates with active participation in extra-curricular activities, cross-cultural experience, counselling background, and first aid qualifications; and
  • Candidates must have completed the Mental Health First Aid Workshop offered by the University or a comparable program. Otherwise, they will need to complete it after their appointment.

 

The Resident Tutors will report to the I-House Management Office and the Wardens, and will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Attend shifts according to a roster that includes weekdays, Saturdays, Sundays, and Public Holidays;
  • Offer support, advice, and care to residents;
  • Maintain discipline at I-House;
  • Plan and organize resident activities and provide support for activities led by residents;
  • Provide guidance to the Resident Association;
  • Provide assistance to residents during emergencies or extreme conditions (e.g. typhoons);
  • Assist with administrative duties such as check-in and check-out exercises; and
  • Perform other duties assigned by the I-House Management Office and the Wardens.

 

Successful applicants will be appointed as voluntary Resident Tutors for a one-year period from 1 August 2024 to 31 July 2025, with the possibility of renewal subject to mutual agreement. Opportunities for early onboarding are available upon mutual agreement. Please note that this position is not considered employment on a full-time or part-time basis and is not concurrent employment with the University. There will be no allowance, remuneration, or employee benefits provided for this volunteer service. Successful applicants will be provided with accommodation in a single room at I-House, with room assignments subject to the decision of I-House management.
