The Beauty of South Asian Scripts
Hindi, Urdu, Tamil, Bengali, Nepalese – these are just a few examples of South Asian languages with non-Latin based scripts. India alone boasts 22 official languages with numerous writing systems and historical as well as linguistic curiosities. Join us for an evening of language and writing, where we will learn some basics from our guests and gain both insights and appreciation into the world of writing systems.
DIY Japanese Mizuhiki Workshop
Mizuhiki (水引), one of the ancient Japanese art forms, utilises a special decorative cord derived from rice paper. It is tied into different knot forms around gifts, envelopes or part of an ornament. In this workshop, participants will get to know the cultural connotations of Mizuhiki, learn its basic cord tying skills and combine them with a small Shimekazari (注連飾り) which is a popular New Year decoration in Japan.
