International House
Welcome to the International House, affectionately known as “I-House”. As a hub of cultural diversity, I-House provides campus accommodation for a diverse mix of undergraduate local, non-local, and exchange students. More than just a place to stay, I-House serves as a vibrant platform for fostering cultural exchange and integration.
At I-House, you will have the opportunity to live alongside fellow students from all around the world, creating a rich and inclusive community. The diverse backgrounds and experiences of our residents contribute to a dynamic environment that encourages cross-cultural interactions, learning, and mutual understanding.
Located at I-House Block 4, the Cultural Commons serves as a central gathering space where regular cultural events take place. These events are open to all CUHK students and provide a unique opportunity to engage with different cultures, traditions, and perspectives. From cultural showcases to performances, workshops, and discussions, the Cultural Commons offers a variety of activities that promote intercultural exchange and enrich the campus experience.

Dear All I-House Residents,
This is Warden David YL Chan from International House Blocks 1-2. After spending nearly a decade overseas for studying, working and travelling around the globe, I have now settled in I-House at CUHK. In line with the Office of Student Affairs, we aim to bring internationalization and to promote cultural interactions in the International House.
I myself had had my hostel life in the UK, USA and Germany, those experience provided me a self-polish opportunity to be a better me along my educational and career paths. As part of the I-House, everyone – as one of the global village resident – has to embrace different cultures, living habits and backgrounds. You will gain different living experiences in I-House. We wish to provide maximum freedom for all residents while having a friendly, vibrant atmosphere and less traditional boundaries. We foresee all I-House residents can learn, laugh and live to the fullest in their journeys at I-House.
Sincerely,
David YL Chan

Biography
Dear I-House Residents,
It is my great honor and pleasure to serve as the Warden of International House Blocks 3-5.
I-House is more than just a place to live. It is a vibrant community celebrating cultural diversity, fostering intercultural understanding, and nurturing meaningful relationships. My hope is for our residential hall to become your true “home away from home”, where every one of you, whether from Sham Shui Po, Shanghai, São Paulo, or anywhere in the world, feels genuinely welcomed, supported, and valued academically, socially, and culturally.
As a Professor of Educational Psychology and Associate Dean of Students at United College, my academic expertise and administrative experience center around student learning, mental health, and psychological well-being. My own international educational journey across Hong Kong, Canada, and the United States has given me a deep appreciation of both the excitement and the challenges students face when adapting to new academic environments, communication styles, and social norms. I warmly invite you to connect with me, whether for casual conversations or guidance in navigating your studies, personal growth, or intercultural interactions.
Alongside our dedicated team of resident tutors, I look forward to the intercultural events where we can celebrate and explore diverse cultures together. Our team is committed to providing a safe, supportive, and enriching living environment for everyone. Let’s collaborate closely to co-create a dynamic, inclusive, and memorable residential life at I-House!
Warmest regards,
CS Tse, Ph.D.
