詳情

1️⃣ Central Asia Demystified
21 March 2022 (Monday) ︳6:30pm-8:00pm

Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan…you may be forgiven if the nuances among those countries evade you. But with Turkic, Mongol, Russian and many other influences, Central Asia is at the cultural and economic centre of the famous Silk Road, both ancient and modern. If you are interested in understanding more about a place where you can find (among many others) Russian-speaking Muslims with East Asian appearance, then you will enjoy our conversation with friends from various Central Asian countries who will help you demystify the region.

2️⃣ The ‘Non-existence’ of Some Lands
25 March 2022 (Friday) ︳5:30pm-7:00pm

Aside from the officially defined countries on the world map, there are some ‘non-existing’ lands that seem to go unnoticed, like Transnistria, Somaliland, Artsakh, Northern Cyprus, Abkhazia. While some of them have their own flag, passport, military, currency and even their own president, many people in the world have never heard of them as these ‘countries’ have not received international recognition.
The speaker travelled to these obscure places to glimpse the life there and to explore the idea of ‘what makes a country exist’.
