Details | Hong Kong, literally translated as “Fragrant Harbor” in Chinese, comes from its history as a provider of incense as some say. Incense making has more than 1000 years of history in China, with relevant culture on scent appreciation developed in Song Dynasty. Burning of incense carries the symbolic meaning of making connection with spiritual beings and deities in Chinese religious practices; while in daily life, it can be used as insect repellent and in aromatherapy. In this workshop, participants will make their own incense under professional guidance, and learn about the historical value and application of incense in Chinese culture. About ‘Urban Touch’ Urban Touch is a cultural programme appreciating and conveying the stories, culture and heritage of Hong Kong. It focuses on different themes in relation to local culture and history, including craftsmanship, food culture, language and stories. |
