| Details | Mahjong is a popular table top game in Hong Kong, especially in festive occasions such as weddings and Lunar New Year gatherings. Mahjong tiles are carved with culture-related patterns that include Chinese characters, dots, bamboo sticks, flowers, etc. In this workshop, participants will get to know the interesting history of hand-carved mahjong, which has become a dying art in the era of mass production, as well as carving their own tile under the guidance of an experienced local artisan mahjong tile carver.
About ‘Urban Touch’ Urban Touch is a cultural programme appreciating and conveying the stories, culture and heritage of Hong Kong. It focuses on different themes in relation to local culture and history, including craftsmanship, food culture, language and stories. |
