Welcome to The Chinese University of Hong Kong!

 

As you are about to embark on a new journey at CUHK, making plans ahead at this stage of transition would have a significant impact on the fruitfulness of your university life in Hong Kong.

 

Joining the orientation programme organised by the University, Colleges, as well as Faculties/ Departments would definitely give you a head start – helping you to familiarize yourself with the campus, understand your studies and build friendships. There are also virtual meetings arranged by the Learning Enhancement Officers (LEOs) to facilitate your better adjustment to your studies at CUHK and life in Hong Kong.

 

Various online resources are available for you to become better equipped for the potential challenges ahead. Meanwhile, you may check out the must-read information prepared by LEOs for non-local newcomers, which briefs you on the important documents that you need to apply for, along with useful information relating to the campus facilities, local transportation and Hong Kong culture.

 

From July forward, further information will be made available on this webpage, giving you complete and practical materials for a seamless transition to the new life. Please visit this website regularly for updates.

University Orientation Day

The University Orientation Day aims to get new undergraduate students ready for a successful and fulfilling university experience. Orientation talks will be organized to highlight the importance of CUHK core values, university life planning, and mental wellness on University Orientation Day. Topics of the orientation talks include an introduction of CUHK, Student Life, Student Experience, Mental Wellness etc.

“Meeting with LEOs” Sessions

Learning Enhancement Officers (LEOs) provide individual guidance and consultation service to help students adjust to university life. In the “Meeting with LEOs” sessions, you will be briefed on the key elements of planning your university life, curriculum requirements and course enrolment. You will also gain a better understanding of Hong Kong culture.

All non-local undergraduate students shall join one session of each theme:

Faculty/ Departmental Orientation (Small O)

The Faculty/ Departmental Orientation is referred to as “Small O”. Activities like virtual or in-person on-campus indoor/ outdoor ice-breaking games, professors’ and students’ sharing sessions on academic programmes and university life, campus tours, etc. will be organized in order to help new students understand their study programme and make new friends.

“CUHK as My New Home” – Breaking the Cultural Boundaries

Cross-cultural communication can be a challenging experience for non-local freshmen. College Orientation Week (Big O)

Greet and Meet Days for International New Students
Date: 26-27 August 2023

Organized by the ISA, the activities will kick start your CUHK experience, connect you with other non-local students, and help you to get prepared for a fruitful university journey. Activities will include Ice-breaking Games, CU Hunt, Alumni Sharing and Big Show.

College Orientation Camp
Date: 28-31 August 2023 (S.H. Ho College: 28 August – 2 September 2023)

The “Big O” is a significant event in the unique college system of CUHK. College organising committees come up with interesting activities. To aid incoming students from varied cultural backgrounds in becoming familiar with their own College and fostering a sense of belonging, student organisers have planned amazing and unique games and activities for College Orientation Week.
