Details

Tai O is famed for its seafood (shrimp paste, salted fish and egg yolk), stilt-houses and fishing culture. It is well-known as Venice of the Orient, which was one of the Hong Kong’s most important fishing pots for more than 200 years. It was also famous for salt industry in the 1930s and 1940s. Although these industries are now obsolete, the traditions still remain in Tai O.
