Low Lying Countries: Fighting with Global Warming

Climate change is a challenge for all of us, but for many low-lying island nations, it becomes an existential threat. The Marshall Islands and The Maldives may cease to exist entirely due to sea level rise, and the world will have to think about “climate refugees”. For this evening, let’s talk to people whose countries are affected, and who care about the ocean that provides their livelihood but also threatens to swallow the very land they live on.

What do Abba, Celine Dion and Conchita Wurst have in common? They were all winners of the event that holds the Guinness world record for the longest running annual TV music competition. Welcome to the Eurovision Song Contest where millions across the world tune in to watch cheesy music collide with politics. Join us to appreciate the music, the underlying geopolitics of Europe and the voting pattern and you may learn just why, the only other thing certain in life besides death and tax, is Cyprus voting for Greece.
